International Educators

You went overseas to serve others, to further your career and for the adventure but you stayed because of the people you met - your students, your peers and your friends in your host country.

US taxes are a distraction, an inconvenience, and a pain. Trying to find the tax forms or software keeps you from focusing on educating.  Your master's degree is in Education, not taxation.  Your former preparer doesn't know that your overseas earnings are required to be reported on a US 1040 or that you can exclude your wages on form 2555 (even if you visit the US for a month or two) because you signed a two-year contract at your school.

We like international educators.  The International School is one of the centers of the American Expat community.  We have teachers living in high tax countries like Korea, China, Thailand, the UK, and Sweden.  They are taking the Foreign Tax Credit.  We have teachers in no-tax countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.  They are taking the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.

Yes, you can exclude your foreign wages even if you are in the US for two months as long as your tax home remains outside the US for a period that includes one whole calendar year.  This is a simplification of very complex tax laws that are dependent on your specific fact pattern but generally, International Educators meet this requirement.

We are familiar with many of the larger schools and the variety of compensation arrangements that exist among the International Schools. In your first year overseas, we can file an extension until January 30th by which time you will have met the Bona-Fide Residence Test.  We have over 20 years of experience preparing tax returns for international educators, just like you.

Let us take care of your US taxes so you can focus on educating and enjoying your host country.
